History

The Company is founded in 1972 and started its first commercial production in 1973 by producing Spiral Welded Pipes. The production facilities are located in Krakatau Industrial Estate - where PT Krakatau Steel (persero) also located and supplies raw material (HRC) for the pipe production. Since then the company has been growing and diversifying its production into pipe corrosive protection services and the production of High Frequency Resistance Welded Pipe. The Commercial production of HFRW pipe started in 2006.

The long experience in Steel pipe manufacture and corrosion protection services led the company to build new technology of coating plant (FBE (Fusion Bonded Epoxy0, 3LPE/PP (three layers polyethylene / Polypropylene) and internal flow coat system. The company has just recently completed the erection of the plant in 2007 so that the company may become an Integrated Pipe Mill in Indonesia, able to render one stop services in steel pipe production. In addition, the expansion line of new Spiral pipe machine (SPM 1800) has also been completed in the first quarter of 2008, so that KHI capability to produce pipes with a thicker wall also increased.

Initially the company’s production is intended to satisfy the growing national demand of pipes in Indonesia especially for oil and gas along with structural uses. Now the company has spread its products throughout the world, inline with the increasing demand from overseas customers. Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, and European countries such as Netherlands and Middle East countries have become the company’s major export destinations.
